VCU celebrates National Allied Health Professions Week
Share this story
The VCU School of Allied Health Professions is celebrating National Allied Health Professions Week from Nov. 1 through Nov. 7 as a time to recognize many of the professionals who contribute significantly to the delivery of health care service and education.
The allied health professions range from clinical laboratory scientists and radiation sciences to physical therapy and health administrators. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an increase of 4 million health care jobs between 2006 and 2016. Of the 30 occupations expected to grow the fastest by 2016, half can be classified as allied health professions.
Faculty members within the school are helping to reduce the employment gap by educating and training future leaders and educators for nine different allied health professions, along with the Virginia Center on Aging and a school doctoral program. These include:
- Clinical Laboratory Sciences
- Gerontology
- Health Administration
- Nurse Anesthesia
- Occupational Therapy
- Patient Counseling
- Physical Therapy
- Radiation Sciences
- Rehabilitation Sciences
- Virginia Center on Aging
- Ph.D. in Health Related Sciences
Faculty members in the school employ the university's unique practitioner-teacher model, with responsibilities in clinical, educational and research settings. As a result, graduates are prepared to offer top quality patient care. For more information on allied health and the VCU School of Allied Health Professions, visit http://www.sahp.vcu.edu/.
