VCU Community to Host “For Africa” Benefit

Virginia Commonwealth University will host three days of performances to support impoverished children in Ghana.
"FOR AFRICA: A benefit performance and celebration for the children of Ghana" will be held Nov. 1 through Nov. 3, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at VirginiaCommonwealthUniversity's Grace Street Theater, 934 W. Grace St. Tickets are $26.00 and go on sale Sept. 25 at the Grace Street Theater Box Office at 804-828-2020.
All proceeds support Sovereign Global Mission, a non-governmental organization in Ghana, which serves homeless street children and rural children who can't afford to go to school and is working to build a combination school and orphanage near Accra.
The event will include performances by the African American Repertory Theatre; Chris Burnside with dancer LaWanda Raines; Danica Priest and Friends; Ezibu Muntu African Dance Company; choreographer James Frazier; poet Njeri Jackson with Jackie Prater;
Richmond Ballet's Minds In Motion, Team XXL; and Theatre VCU.
After each performance, a reception, silent auction and African market also supporting Sovereign Global Mission will take place at the Scott House, 909 W. Franklin St.
