Virginia Commonwealth University hosted its first concert on behalf of Children’s Medical Services International, a local nonprofit foundation that provides medical care for children in developing countries.

The event, “Night at the Singleton,” was held at VCU’s W.E. Singleton Center for Performing Arts and was organized by the VCU Department of Music.

“The performances were extraordinary,” said Charles Bagwell, M.D., vice president of CMSI and chief of pediatric surgery at the VCU Medical Center.

The performances included the Shiny Stockings Trio, selected members of the VCU Symphony Orchestra and the Lindsay Family Brass/Jazz Quintet.

“The audience demanded an encore,” said Antonio Garcia, director of jazz studies and coordinator of the event. “The event was very festive.”

Children’s Medical Services International is a local, nonprofit organization that supports and promotes programs to benefit children's health and development worldwide.
