VCU hosts first-ever Student Film Festival
Share this story
The first student film festival at Virginia Commonwealth University is set for May 10 at 2 p.m. in the VCU Student Commons Theater, 907 Floyd Ave.
The festival provides any VCU student with the opportunity to have his or her short film selected to appear on the big screen. Nick Schapiro, one of the festival’s organizers, said the event will feature approximately 20 films.
Students could enter their film into one of three categories — Narrative, Documentary and Animation/Experimental — during the month of April. Each category will have an audience choice award, as well as a first- and second-place winner, determined by a panel of judges made up of local filmmakers, professionals and enthusiasts.
Any VCU student could submit up to three films for the festival. Each film has to have been made during 2007-2008 and can not be longer than 20 minutes.
The festival is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Nick Schapiro at 804-840-0189 or nick.schapiro@gmail.com or visit http://www.studentorg.vcu.edu/sofilmfest.
