VCU Hosts Second Annual Student Research Week

Students to showcase research projects week of April 23

Virginia Commonwealth University is hosting its 2nd annual Student Research Week, a series of events that bring together undergraduate and graduate students from across disciplines to celebrate research and creative and scholarly projects.

Events and activities will take place from April 23 to April 27 on the Monroe Park Campus of VCU.

During the week-long series, undergraduate and graduate students will present overviews of their projects, theses or dissertations. These projects span many academic disciplines, including the College of Humanities & Sciences and the schools of Allied Health Professions, Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Interdisciplinary Studies. Students will be available to demonstrate and discuss their projects.

The event is free and open to all students, faculty, staff and the public.

April 23           Kickoff Lecture: Jad Abumrad, host and producer of Radiolab

Speaker: Jad Abumrad, host and producer of the nationally syndicated program Radiolab, will open Research Week with advice for student researchers.

VCU School of Engineering Design Expo

The annual Senior Design Expo is the culmination of eight months of effort and allows senior design teams to display and demonstrate their prototypes. Hosted by the Science Museum of Virginia.

 

VCU Venture Creation Competition

1 p.m. - 5 p.m., Room B3114, Snead Hall, VCU School of Business

VCU’s da Vinci Center for Innovation hosts the inaugural business plan competition aimed at sparking the entrepreneurial spirit of all VCU students across VCU’s campuses. Five student teams have been selected as finalists and will compete for $11,000 in prize money. The competition is sponsored by the VCU Office of the Vice President of Research, VCU School of Business, MeadWestvaco Foundation and Motley’s Richmond Auto Auction.

 

Research Week is sponsored by the VCU Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, the VCU Graduate Student Association, the VCU Office of Research and the VCU Office of the Provost.
