The VCU schools of Engineering and Education will host a town hall meeting with Debra Saunders-White, Ed.D., deputy assistant secretary for higher education programs for the U.S. Department of Education, on increasing career interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Health (STEM-H) studies.

The discussion takes place at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the VCU School of Engineering West Hall, 601 W. Main St., Room 106.

The discussion will focus on STEM-H grant programs including the USDOE’s Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) and VCU’s administrative focus on STEM-H careers.

The town hall is part of the Department of Education’s annual “Education Drives America” bus tour, a multi-stop tour highlighting education successes in cities across the U.S.

Also as part of the tour, the VCU Center for Teacher Leadership, 3600 W. Broad St., Suite 300, hosts a roundtable discussion on RESPECT — Recognizing Educational Success, Professional Excellence and Collaborative Teaching — with Teaching Ambassador Fellows Lisa Clarke and Lisa Coates at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 21.
