In celebration of the holiday season, the Department of Music in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts will host its 30th annual Holiday Gala, benefiting The Doorways, formerly Richmond’s Hospital Hospitality House.

The event takes place Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. in the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Vlahcevic Concert Hall, 922 Park Ave.

The program of holiday music will feature VCU’s Jazz Orchestra II, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Commonwealth Singers, the Guitar Ensembles and other VCU ensembles.

The Doorways provides lodging and nonmedical services to out-of-town families who need to be near Richmond medical facilities, without regard to the family's ability to pay.

Each year, The Doorways serves thousands of guests who are patients and families of patients receiving care at VCU Medical Center and at eight other Richmond-area medical centers. To help continue providing a “home-away-from-home” for families in medical crisis, The Doorways relies on community contributions.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting http://arts.vcu.edu/music/2016/09/11/annual-holiday-gala-dec-9/. Tickets can also be purchased the evening of the concert at the VCU Department of Music Box Office.
