John Accordino, Ph.D., professor of urban and regional planning in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs (left), and graduate students Craig Carver and Laura Baker, answered questions from community members during a presentation of their revitalization plan for the Hull Street Road Corridor. Students in Accordino’s urban commercial revitalization class spent four months studying a two-mile stretch of the corridor in the City of Richmond and Chesterfield County. Their recommendations include the creation of a Hispanic business district, a farmer’s market, an entertainment district, restaurants, clothing stores and a cluster of businesses serving contractors and construction companies. Accordino said students in the program prepare dozens of plans each year for communities across the Richmond area.
