VCU Police and UNITE to bring drunken and distracted driving simulator to VCU’s medical campus

The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department will bring a drunken driving and distracted driving simulator to the VCU MCV Campus as part of UNITE’s Arrive Alive Tour 2014. The event aims to educate students and staff about the dangers of distracted and drunken driving.
The simulator will be set up on Monday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kontos Medical Sciences Building courtyard near 1217 E. Marshall St. Media are invited to attend from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. VCU Police Capt. Mike O’Berry and Patrick Degrasse, CEO for Unite Inc., will be available for interviews during this time.
UNITE’s Arrive Alive program uses a high-tech simulator, impact video and a number of other resources to educate students about the dangers of drunken driving and texting while driving. The simulator allows people to experience the potential consequences of drunken and distracted driving in a controlled environment.
UNITE brings health and wellness programs to high school and college campuses across the nation. Their programs are designed to heighten awareness to the dangers and consequences of drunken driving and distracted driving. Their follow-up programs have a powerful impact on students to reinforce the subjects that schools and parents teach them daily.
