VCU Presents Presidential Inauguration Research Lecture Series

As part of the inauguration of President Michael Rao, Virginia Commonwealth University this month is hosting the Presidential Inauguration Research Lecture Series, which brings together students and faculty from across disciplines and campuses to celebrate research and creative and scholarly projects.

The lectures feature several distinguished faculty and student researchers. The lectures, which are free and open to the public, will be held at locations on both the Monroe Park and MCV campuses.

The following lectures will take place in October. Each lecture runs from noon to 1 p.m.

Oct. 5     Innovation in Practice  – The da Vinci Center Examines Virtual Teaming

Panel includes: Kenneth B. Kahn, Ph.D., director of the VCU da Vinci Center for Innovation in Product Design and Development, and students working on virtual teaming projects.

Oct. 11   Research and Innovation: Making New Discoveries

Panel includes: Ann Nichols-Casebolt, Ph.D., associate vice president for Research Development; Ivelina Mecheva, Ph.D., director of VCU Tech Transfer; David Simpson, Ph.D., associate professor, Department of Anatomy; Dan Ream, M.A., associate professor and director, Outreach & Distance Education, VCU Libraries. Discussion will focus on technology transfer, an innovator highlight, patents and research ethics.

Oct. 13   The Art of Collaboration: The Center for Clinical and Translational Research

Presenter: John Clore, M.D., associate vice president for clinical research, director of the VCU Center for Clinical and Translational Research. Discussion will focus on translational research and resources available to researchers across VCU’s campuses.

Oct. 18   Research is for Everyone: A showcase of VCU research and creative scholarship across disciplines

Panel includes: James S. Coleman, Ph.D., dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences; James Vonesh, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Biology; Donna Reamy, interim chair and associate professor in the Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising; and Matthew Rutherford, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Management in the School of Business. Experts from the arts, life sciences and business will share their insight and discuss findings from their areas of expertise.
