Virginia Commonwealth University's Staff Senate will sponsor a walk-a-thon to raise funds for the Virginia's Caring University Scholarship, an undergraduate award for juniors and seniors in financial need.

VCU President Eugene P. Trani will be the keynote speaker to kick off the walk-a-thon on Wednesday, April 13, at noon in the Student Commons Plaza, 907 Floyd Ave.

"This scholarship is for the students who attend this university who might have had minor setbacks," said Marquita Aguilar, staff senate volunteer committee chair. "We plan to turn these setbacks into comebacks by giving a gift that can open the door to the future for these scholarship recipients."

All proceeds received from donations and gifts will be disbursed to the recipient's fall 2005 student account.

The Staff Senate serves to support the diverse staff of VCU and the VCU Health System by facilitating communication and making responsible decisions to meet the current and future needs of the university community.

The registration deadline to walk in the event is Wednesday, March 23. Late registrations and donations also will be accepted the day of the walk-a-thon. The application deadline for the scholarship is Wednesday, April 20. For more information visit http://www.vcu.edu/scholarships/, or contact Marquita Aguilar at 828.2340.
