Virginia Commonwealth University President Eugene P. Trani is reported in stablecondition today after undergoing quintuple heart bypass surgery at the VCU Medical Center on Saturday.

Trani, 68, reported chest pains late last week, and tests indicated the surgery was necessary.  His doctors report that the surgery was a success and that Trani's recovery is on track for discharge from the hospital later this week.

His recuperation will continue at home for six to eight weeks.
