VCU School of the Arts Cinematheque Series releases fall schedule

Ten art films from around the world are the featured presentations on the fall schedule of VCUarts Cinematheque, an ongoing film series developed by the Cinema Programin theVirginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts.
A highlight this season will be a visit by director Sara Driver, who will serve as guest speaker following a screening of her film, “When Pigs Fly,” on Nov. 11.
The films will be projected at the Grace Street Theater in 35mm with VCU’s state-of-the-art projecting system. The Grace Street Theater, at 934 W. Grace St., seats 250 people in a stadium-seating layout.
The season’s Tuesday screenings start promptly at 7 p.m. A question-and-answer discussion will follow most films, which are free and open to the public on a first-come basis.
The fall feature films are:
“In the Mood for Love” by Wong Kar Wai, Aug. 26
China, 2000
Hong Kong neighbors form a bond when they both suspect their spouses of affairs.
“The Cuckoo” by Aleksandr Rogoshkin, Sept. 2
Russia, 2002
In September 1944, a Lapp woman gives shelter to two soldiers from enemy armies, whom she sees not as enemies but as men.
“The Beaches of Agnès” by Agnès Varda, Sept. 16
France, 2008
An autobiographical essay by feminist film director and professor Agnès Varda, in celebration of her 80th birthday.
“Dr. Strangelove” by Stanley Kubrick, Sept. 23
United States, 1964
A mad U.S. general orders a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union, which the president, his advisers and other frantic politicians try to stop.
“Warsaw Bridge” by Pere Portabella, Oct. 7
Spain, 1989
A professor, a writer and a conductor involved in a love triangle attend a cocktail party where the writer attempts unsuccessfully to answer questions about the plot of his prize-winning novel, “Warsaw Bridge.”
“Edvard Munch” by Peter Watkins, Oct. 14
Norway, 1974
A biography of the Norwegian expressionist spanning 30 years.
“A Prophet” by Jacques Audiard, Oct. 28

A young man becomes a mafia kingpin in a French prison.
“A Separation” by Asghar Farhadi, Nov. 4
