VCU Students “Paint the Town Green”
Virginia Commonwealth University students are going green, and not just on campus. A VCU Student Government Association initiative, “Paint the Town Green,” seeks to help clean up neighborhoods in which students live, one at a time.
The program provides a way for students to give back to the community, to promote recycling and to help the area surrounding VCU become a little “greener,” while furthering relationships with the community.
Each month, students spend the day cleaning up a different neighborhood. In January, a group of about 30 volunteers spent their Saturday cleaning up the Oregon Hill neighborhood.
This month, VCU students will partner with the Fan District Association to help clean up areas in the Fan.
“We are hoping to have about 80 people this time,” said Leah Fremouw, director of external affairs for the VCU SGA.
In March, the group will work in the Carver District and in April, return to the Fan District.
