Several Virginia Commonwealth University undergraduate students, along with other students from the 12 schools of the Colonial Athletic Association, presented their research during the fourth annual Colonial Academic Alliance Undergraduate research Conference.

The alliance is the academic consortium that links the 12 colleges and universities of the Colonial Athletic Association in programs that improve that quality of teaching, learning and research.

The research conference was created as a commitment to foster a spirit of inquiry among undergraduate students and featured poster displays and panels of oral presentations.

VCU undergraduates who participated in the research conference included Bernadette Guerra, ecotoxicology major; Zakia Williams, English major; Fatima Syed and Muhammad Ashraf, pathology majors; and Megan Donald, Peter Moody and Emily M. Spitzer, sociology majors.

The event was held this past weekend at James Madison University, a CAA institution member. Other CAA institution members include George Mason University, Hofstra University, Georgia State University, the University of Delaware and Drexel University.

The Colonial Athletic Association is an NCAA Division I college athletic conference whose members are located in East Coast states from New York to North Carolina. The CAA has produced 16 national team champions in five different sports, 33 individual national champions, 11 national coaches of the year and 11 national players of the year.
