Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Union University are hosting an event to examine the role race plays in the electoral process and in upcoming federal, state and local elections.

The Wilder Symposium “Race and American Society” will take place on April 6 on the campus of Virginia Union University, 1500 N. Lombardy St., Richmond. The morning session, “The 2016 National Election Picture,” will be held from 10 a.m. until noon at the Claude E. Perkins Living & Learning Center.

The evening session, “Richmond Mayoral Forum,” will take place from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Coburn Hall, Allix B. James Chapel. Former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder and political analyst Bob Holsworth, Ph.D., who is a member of the VCU Board of Visitors and former dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences, will serve as moderators.

The day’s events, which are free and open to the public, are meant to build on the conversation about race and American society that the Wilder Symposium began last fall.
