VCU's Department of Interior Design recently recognized two alumni with special honors.

C. Larry Horne, American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), received the Interior Design Medallist Award, and Cameron C. Stiles, Certified Interior Designer (CID), ASID, was inducted into the department's Alumni Circle of Excellence.

The Interior Design Medallist Award is the highest honor that VCU's Department of Interior Design can give to an individual in the profession of interior design. The award recognizes individuals who have achieved significant recognition on a national or international level in areas related to design and who have made noteworthy contributions to the advancement of the profession.

The Alumni Circle of Excellence is the highest honor given to a graduate of the program, in recognition of outstanding work in the field of interior design and service to the department. Stiles is the first inductee for this honor.

The awards were presented at the department's annual reception and review of senior design projects at the Pollak Building.

Horne received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from VCU in 1969 and is president of Horne International Designs, Inc. based in Bethesda, Md. The firm specializes in commercial and residential interior design with installations throughout the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

Stiles received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from VCU in 1981 and is a principal with KSA Interiors, Inc. located in Richmond, Va. She has received numerous awards from the Virginia chapter of ASID for her commercial designs. Stiles was one of the founding members of the VCUArts Interior Design Advisory Board established in 1999 and served as the board's first chair for three consecutive years.

The board promotes the best interests of the department, its alumni and its students, particularly in the areas of public relations and fundraising. Their activities include participating in job fairs, outreach meetings, exhibitions and receptions, field trips, support for special projects, and career consultation for graduating seniors.
