Richmond, Va. - Virginia Commonwealth University and University of Virginia officials will join Del. Franklin P. Hall at a news conference tomorrow when he announces legislation to create a new state income tax check-off to support cancer research at the state's two National Cancer Institute-designated centers, the VCU Massey Cancer Center and the UVA Cancer Center.
The news conference is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, at a Massey Cancer Center research laboratory, 2202 Sanger Hall, second floor, 1101 E. Marshall Street at the VCU Medical Center in Richmond.
Proceeds from the tax check-off will go to the new Virginia Cancer Research Fund, to be divided evenly between the VCU Massey and UVA Cancer Centers. Gov. Mark Warner has included $50,000 in his proposed budget to launch the new research fund.
Limited parking for media is available on the north side of Marshall St., just east of 12th street in front of the main hospital.
