Volunteers gather resources for the homeless

On Sunday, Jan. 19, as part of Homecoming 2014 and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, volunteers assembled bags of toiletries, winter clothes and notes of encouragement at the Student Commons that will be distributed to the homeless by CARITAS. In all, volunteers assembled 179 bags. Organizers estimated that 45 volunteers participated in the event.

Homecoming was held from Jan. 14 to Jan. 19. This year's homecoming celebration led into the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, and VCU community members were encouraged to participate in community service activities. The event with CARITAS, an agency that assists the homeless community, was part of that effort.
