Warren Appointed Dean of VCU School of Education

Virginia Commonwealth University today announced the appointment of Beverly J. Warren, Ed.D., Ph.D., to be dean of the VCU School of Education.

Warren has been interim dean since July 2005 and associate dean for Faculty Affairs since 2003. She came to the school in 2000, serving as head of its Division of Health, Physical Education and Recreation until 2003.

"We're pleased that Dr. Warren will continue to provide the excellent leadership that she has while serving as interim dean," said VCU President Eugene P. Trani.  "She has a strong vision for the future of the School of Education that is shared by the faculty and administration and supports the university's strategic plan."

Previously, Warren served as professor and chair at Lander University, Greenwood, S.C., and as associate professor and director of graduate programs at Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C. She also served on the faculty at Auburn University; Smith College in Northampton, Mass. and at the University of Montevallo in Alabama.

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with the outstanding faculty, staff and students in the School of Education," Warren said. "I appreciate the support of the VCU leadership as we move forward in bridging opportunities with our local community partners and in contributing to the national agenda on issues related to education and health."

Warren is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and serves on the organization's board of trustees. She holds a doctorate in exercise physiology from Auburn University and an Ed.D. in administration of higher education from the University of Alabama. Warren also earned a master's degree from Southern Illinois University and a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The VCU School of Education enrolls 1,800 students majoring in education and health-related fields, 58 full-time instructional faculty, and 100 research faculty.
