Harry E. Wyatt Jr. will bring 30 years of leadership experience to Virginia Commonwealth University when he becomes the university’s new associate vice president for facilities management on July 1.
Wyatt, a registered architect, has held a number of management positions at universities and academic health care facilities.
Wyatt comes to VCU from Ohio University where, as associate vice president for facilities, he was the leader of facilities planning, design and construction, plant operations, transportation and parking, and university sustainability. Prior to that, he was an associate vice president for facilities management at the University of Toledo. He has also served as interim assistant vice president at Georgia State, director of physical plant and facilities planning at LSU Medical Center and director of programming and design at Duke University Medical Center.
Wyatt said his prior professional experience is a logical fit for VCU.
"I grew up at Duke starting as an intern architect and project manager, and had wonderful opportunities there at a time of strong growth. My experience at Georgia State University and University of Toledo will have parallels with issues and opportunities that face VCU as a metropolitan university,” Wyatt said. “My experience at Duke University Medical Center, LSU Medical Center and Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine will also have parallels with the VCU Health System.”
Wyatt earned bachelor’s degrees in both environmental design and architecture from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Duke University.
“I truly enjoy the role of facilities steward to a university and helping to achieve an institutional vision through the development and operation of its physical components,” Wyatt said.
Wyatt replaces Brian Ohlinger, who retired after a 17-year career at VCU.
