Saturday’s Monroe Park Festival is just one of a series of events taking place in conjunction with Virginia Commonwealth University’s 40th anniversary.

Historic markers will be unveiled on both campuses, a university celebration will be held at the Stuart C. Siegel Center and VCU’s “40 Acts of Caring,” which highlight university-community partnerships, will be announced. The annual Fall Fest will incorporate anniversary celebrations into its festivities this year.

A dedication of two markers on the MCV Campus — the Birthplace of Cardiac Transplantation and the St. Philip School of Nursing — will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 11:30 a.m. on the plaza between the Egyptian Building and the Hermes A. Kontos Medical Sciences Building. VCU President Eugene P. Trani and Vice President Sheldon M. Retchin will preside. Lunch will be provided.

The Fortieth and Forward anniversary celebration for faculty, staff and students featuring food and entertainment will be held Friday, Oct. 24, at 11:30 a.m. at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.

Alumnus Charles Ponticello, M.F.A., will present “Tableith,” a commemorative sculpture, to Richmond Professional Institute alumni on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. at Scott House, followed by the Monroe Park Festival kickoff at noon.
