VCU surgeon gets life achievement award

Dr. Walter Lawrence Jr., director emeritus of the Massey Cancer Center, has been awarded the Life Achievement in Science Award by the Science Museum of Virginia. Lawrence is an internationally recognized cancer surgeon, researcher and teacher and was the first director of what now is the Massey Cancer Center. The Science Museum recognized Lawrence and other honorees at the General Assembly on Feb. 19. They will be honored at a dinner on April 15.
