Judy VanSlyke Turk, Ph.D., Director of the School of Mass Communications
Turk took office in January as vice president of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication, an organization representing journalism and mass communications departments, schools and colleges in the United States. She will become president-elect of the organization in 2008 and take over as president of the organization in 2009.
Faye S. Taxman, Ph.D., professor in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs
Taxman edited a special edition of the “Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment.” It featured the first set of findings from a national survey funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, part of the National Institutes of Health. The National Criminal Justice Treatment Practices Survey concludes that fewer than 10 percent of drug-abusing offenders get the treatment they need. Taxman says this survey and related studies can lead to better programs for reducing the rate of recidivism by substance abusing offenders.
