VCU TO HOLD LOUIS AND RUTH HARRIS EXHIBITION OPENING RECEPTION
A reception will be held for the opening of the Louis and Ruth Harris exhibition that will feature selected work by students of Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Photography and Film.

Dr. Louis S. Harris, VCU's associate vice president for health science, created the exhibit to illustrate his theory that exposure to art makes better scientists. At the reception, Harris will award purchase prizes to five of the works that will be placed permanently at the VCU Medical Center.

"What drives us in science is to create something - something new to add to the body of knowledge," said Harris. "That's what artists do better than anyone."

Harris was fired for his artistic bent three times from Harvard's Departmeant of Pharmacology. He went on to conduct significant research on narcotics and won the Nathan B. Eddy Award, the most prestigious award in the field.

The reception will be held April 30 from 3-5 p.m. on the ground floor of VCU's Medical Sciences Building, 1217 E. Marshall St. For more information, call Amy Singleton at 225-4676.
