Domenic Sica, M.D., chair of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology
and Hypertension
Sica is section editor of the pharmacotherapy section of the recently
published Third Edition of the Hypertension Primer. Published under the
auspices of the American Heart Association and available from Lippincott
Williams and Wilkins, the text is widely recognized as an authoritative
source for scientific and clinical information on hypertension. The text
contains more than 150 short chapters by distinguished experts that cover
every aspect of hypertension and its pathogenesis, epidemiology, impact
and management. Written for physicians, scientists and trainees concerned
with high blood pressure, it is also a useful adjunct text for medical
students.
Fred Certosimo, D.M.D., M.S.Ed., General Practice
Certosimo was recognized as the recipient of the 2003 Harald Loe Scholars
Program at the Opening Ceremony of the 32nd Annual Meeting of the American
Association of Dental Research (AADR) in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday,
March 12, 2003.
Harvey Schenkein, D.D.S., Ph.D., assistance dean of research,
VCU School of Dentistry
Schenkein has been selected to receive the 2003 Basic Research in Periodontal
Disease Award from the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).
The award is supported by the Colgate-Palmolive Company and is designed
to recognize and encourage outstanding achievements in basic research
in periodontal disease. Schenkein received the award for his contributions
and works related to the genetics and pathogenesis of periodontal disease.
The award, which includes a monetary prize and plaque, is the highest
honor given by the IADR.
