John Blohm announced today that he will resign his position as vice president for Development and Alumni Relations, effective March 24, in order to pursue other professional philanthropic and fundraising opportunities.

Blohm came to VCU in February 2011 from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he was vice chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs. In the past two years at VCU he undertook a significant reorganization of the development division, enhancing operational efficiencies and structure to support growing university philanthropic initiatives.

“We are very appreciative of John’s efforts to strengthen fundraising, development and alumni engagement at VCU,” said VCU President Michael Rao. “Under John’s leadership, the university grew its philanthropic annual totals to record levels.”

A national search for a chief development officer will begin immediately. Thomas C. Burke, Jr., associate vice president and executive director of the VCU Foundation, will serve as interim vice president beginning on March 24.
