Sven Kepes, Ph.D., associate professor of management, School of Business
Michael McDaniel, Ph.D., professor of management, School of Business
PLOS ONE published Kepes’ and McDaniel’s research article, “The Validity of Conscientiousness is Overestimated in the Prediction of Job Performance,” on its website.
Their research concluded that the fields of management and applied psychology seldom conduct sensitivity analyses—investigations of the degree to which the results of a meta-analysis remain stable when conditions of the data or the analysis change. Through the use of sensitivity analyses, the paper documents that the existing literature overestimates the validity of conscientiousness in the prediction of job performance. According to their data, effect sizes from journal articles are largely responsible for this overestimation.
In conducting their research, Kepes and McDaniel were the first recipients of the VCU Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund.
PLOS (Public Library of Science) is a nonprofit publisher and advocate of open access research. It accepts scientifically rigorous, original research from all disciplines within science and medicine.
