Mary Ann Turner, M.D., Department of Radiology
Turner, professor and vice chair of the VCU School of Medicine’s Department of Radiology, is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists. The award recognizes Turner’s contributions and longstanding commitment to the Department of Radiology, the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists and to radiology as a specialty.

Hamid I. Akbarali, Ph.D., Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology
Akbarali, professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Virginia Commonwealth University, is the recipient of the 17th Annual Masters Award in Gastroenterology from the American Gastroenterology Association Institute. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in basic or clinical digestive sciences. Akbarali’s research focused on gastrointestinal inflammation and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. The prize includes a crystal memento and cash prize and will be presented this month at the Annual Digestive Disease Week meeting in Chicago.
