The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU will offer a series of free educational seminars featuring experts providing important health information, sharing their expertise and answering questions on current health topics.

The series’ second seminar, “My Kind of Play,” will take place on March 18, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont, 224 Washington St., in Falmouth, Va. It is free and open to the public, however registration is recommended. For more information, or to register, please visit vcuhealth.org/fredseminars.

“My Kind of Play” will be presented by Katie DeWeerd, occupational therapist at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. The seminar will discuss sensory processing disorder, in which children are so severely affected by their sensory preferences that it interferes with their normal, everyday functioning. Children are most commonly treated for this disorder with fun, play-based occupational therapy in a sensory-rich environment.
