Rams fans cheer history-making baseball team

The drizzle and cold of an unseasonable afternoon in June did little to dissuade the most ardent of Virginia Commonwealth University fans Wednesday afternoon. The Peppas, Rowdy Rams, Rodney, friends and family all came out to The Diamond wearing their black and gold to cheer and wave to the VCU men’s baseball team as it boarded a bus bound for sunny Miami.
“Unbelievable send-off by our fans and supporters!” coach Shawn Stiffler tweeted out after hitting the road to the Richmond International Airport.
This is the first time in the baseball program’s history that VCU has advanced to the Super Regional round in the NCAA championships. Additionally, the Rams are the first Atlantic 10 team to advance to a Super Regional since 2002.
VCU takes the field against the University of Miami at noon on Friday (on ESPNU) in Game 1 of the best-of-three series in Coral Gables, Florida.
