With a $10 donation, a pink ribbon can be inscribed with the name of a person to be honored. That ribbon then will be hung on a "Wall of Courage" located in the James Center beginning Feb. 8. Those purchasing ribbons also will receive a Valentine’s Day card, which can be sent to the honoree, with information about the "Ribbons for Research" program. The ribbons and cards can be purchased at the following times and locations:
Feb. 4, 5, 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at six Ukrop’s Pharmacy locations: Ukrop’s Chesterfield Towne Center, Ukrop’s Short Pump, Ukrop’s Stony Point, Ukrop’s at The Village, Ukrop’s Virginia Center Marketplace and Ukrop’s Westpark; and
Jan. 31 through Feb. 14 from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the James Center Atrium, located at 1051 E. Cary St.
The approximately 2,500 ribbons that are available for inscription were made by the ninth grade class of St. Catherine’s School. The class participated in the project to honor Margie Miller, a middle-school guidance counselor who died of breast cancer in 1998.
Sponsors of the "Ribbons for Research" program include the Board for Women’s Health, the Junior League of Richmond, Ukrop’s Pharmacy and First Market Bank.
