Six VCU Students Receive Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Six Virginia Commonwealth University students have been awarded scholarships through the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program for study abroad in the current spring semester.

Daedriana Harvey, a junior majoring in fashion design, received a scholarship to study at VCU Qatar in Doha, Qatar. Harvey is from College Park, Md.

Dawn Addison, a senior majoring in sociology, received the scholarship for study at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, which is one of VCU’s international partnership universities. Addison is from Petersburg.

Zahra Haider, a junior majoring in both international relations and political science, received the scholarship for study at the University of Westminster in London, England. Haider is from Gainesville.

Erika Del Cid, a junior majoring in international relations, received the scholarship for study at the University of Hyderabad in India. Del Cid is from Woodbridge.

Gloria Kim, a junior majoring in fashion design, received the scholarship for study abroad at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea. Kim is from Centreville.

Lea Gober, a senior majoring in fashion merchandising, received the scholarship for study at the University of Westminster. Gober is from Washington, D.C.

The students are participating through VCU Education Abroad which is operated by the Office of International Education.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program supports undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

The scholarship program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and Institute of International Education.
