Spreading Holiday Cheer

As college students settle in to winter break, Virginia Commonwealth University offers opportunities to stay connected and makes plans for the new year.

Intersession classes, a winter ski trip and basketball games keep the VCU community involved throughout break while campus events heat up in January and February with even more Colonial Athletic Assocation match-ups for the Rams, Homecoming 2011 and Open House.

Intersession classes
Holiday Intersession classes meet for 11 days between the fall and spring semesters (Dec. 27 to Jan. 8 regardless of published or added university or state holidays) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a one-hour break for lunch.

Winter ski trip
Recreation Sports sponsors a winter break ski trip Jan. 9-15 to Smugglers’ Notch, Vt. — a longtime favorite destination for VCU students.

Holiday ridesharing
Make winter break travel more sustainable, fun and easy by using VCU Zimride, a private network for finding and sharing rides with friends and co-workers.

Athletics
The men’s basketball team wraps up 2010 play at home with the Dec. 29-30 VCU Christmas Tournament. Then 2011 brings multiple CAA rivals to Richmond as the men’s and women’s basketball teams challenge conference opponents, including the University of North Caroline Wilmington during Homecoming 2011. Open House
VCU’s Open House — held Saturday, Feb. 5 — will give prospective students and their families an opportunity to meet with VCU faculty and students, view residence halls, tour the Monroe Park Campus, and much more.
