University to Honor Outstanding Faculty at 28th Convocation

Virginia Commonwealth University will honor four distinguished faculty members during the 28th Opening Faculty Address and Convocation ceremony on Sept. 14.

An annual event that acknowledges the quality and excellence of the VCU faculty, Convocation also marks the formal opening of the academic year. This year’s ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. at the Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, immediately followed by a reception in the center lobby.

VCU President Michael Rao, Ph.D., Vice President for VCU Health Sciences and CEO of the VCU Health System Sheldon Retchin, M.D., and Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Beverly J. Warren will recognize the honorees for their outstanding accomplishments in the areas of teaching, scholarship, service and overall excellence.

This year’s recipients are:

  • Richard P. Wenzel, School of Medicine, University Award of Excellence
  • George W. Vetrovec, School of Medicine, Distinguished Service Award
  • William E. Haver, College of Humanities and Sciences, Distinguished Teaching Award
  • Shiv N. Khanna, College of Humanities and Sciences, Distinguished Scholarship Award
