VCU Business hosting Supply Chain Summit

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business Department of Supply Chain Management and Analytics is co-hosting a full day of interactive and educational sessions that highlight interesting and emerging supply chain phenomena.

The Supply Chain Summit, co-hosted by the Institute for Supply Management – Carolinas-Virginia/ Richmond Chapter, will take place Friday, March 23, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at WestRock, 501 S. Fifth St.

In the keynote address, Jack Levis, senior director of industrial engineering at UPS, will share his experiences and best practices for gaining competitive advantage through analytical processes and skill.

VCU School of Business faculty will present analysis of data provided by a local health care company. David Berdish, executive-in-residence at VCU, will join Calista Redmond, vice president of IBM Systems, to discuss how VCU supply chain research and applied projects can be woven with IBM technologies to develop? ?innovative? ?business models.

Other speakers include Ann Macheras, vice president of regional research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, who will discuss national economic trends and expectations that impact supply chains, including forecasts from the Federal Open Market Committee, and Bruce Funderburke, vice president of sales and operations planning for consumer paperboard at WestRock, who will present “10 Things to Know Before Working in Supply Chain.”

Also, finalists in the VCU School of Business Analytics Challenge ? in which students had four weeks to analyze real company data and propose a business solution ? will present their findings to determine who wins first place (and a prize of $3,500), second place ($2,000) and third place ($1,000).
