Virginia Commonwealth University presents the Second Annual Clarence Holland Lecture, which addresses issues of ethics in health care.

The event will be held Thursday, May 13, at noon at the Larrick Student Center, 641 N. Eighth St., Court End Ballroom B.

Author Shannon Brownlee will address “Is Health Care the Next Mortgage Crisis?” and discuss practicing medicine in the wake of health care reform. Brownlee is author of “Overtreated: Why Too Much Medicine is Making Us Sicker and Poorer”. Named the No. 1 economics book of 2007 by The New York Times, “Overtreated” is touted as a resource for legislators and policy makers who craft health care reform legislation.

The lecture is hosted by the Department of Family Medicine. The Holland Lectureship was established by an anonymous donor to recognize the contributions of Dr. Clancy A. Holland to the well-being of Virginians and to the ethics of health care. An alumnus of the Class of 1962, Holland practiced as a family physician for 42 years and served as a state senator for more than a decade.
