A team from the VCU School of Business won the district title in the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond’s annual College Fed Challenge and then finished fifth in the national competition. Team members included Logan Hudgins, Thomas Pelletier, Sean Proietti, Andrew Stephenson, Matt Wolpert and Melissa Lohmann, the alternate. Dennis O’Toole, an adjunct professor in the Department of Economics, served as the faculty adviser.

VCU defeated Mount St. Mary’s and the University of North Carolina in the competition, which was held on Nov. 19. The winning squad advanced to the national competition on Nov. 30 at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. VCU is one of 12 district winners in the country. VCU earlier had advanced to the district competition by defeating 14 colleges and universities from Virginia and West Virginia on Nov. 9.

Teams were judged on their knowledge of the Federal Reserve and the current state of the economy and monetary policy, as well as research, analysis and responses during a 10-minute question-and-answer session. Presentation quality and teamwork were scoring factors.

Bentley University won the national competition.
