VCU to Host Sleep Disorders Conference

National Experts Will Discuss Signs, Symptoms and Treatment

Virginia Commonwealth University will host its second annual conference on Psychology and Public Health. The focus of this year's conference is sleep disorders.

"Sleep Disorders Across the Lifespan: Recognizing, Treating and Referring Patients with Sleep Disorders in Your Practice" will take place on Oct. 30, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the VCU University Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. 

The conference is designed for health professionals and features nationally recognized experts in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders with a special emphasis on behavioral treatment of insomnia.

Experts include:

·         Bruce Rybarczyk, Ph.D., department of psychology (clinical psychology program) at VCU

·         Arnold Stolberg, Ph.D., department of psychology (clinical psychology program) at VCU

·         Steve Burton, Ph.D. diplomate, American Board of Sleep Medicine, president and founder of Ion Healthcare

·         Jack Edinger Ph.D., AASM Certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine, professor at Duke University Medical Center

·         Daniel Lewin, Ph.D., AASM Certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine, associate director, pediatric sleep disorders, Children's National Medical Center

·         David J. Leszczyszyn, M.D., Ph.D., Diplomate, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and director of the VCU Sleep Disorder Center   

Topics include insomnia, sleep apnea and childhood sleep disorders and management.
