Volunteers Provide Students with Refurbished Greenhouse

In 2012, VCU’s “Team Right Now!,” a university volunteer group under the Office of Sustainability, created the “Commit and Connect” initiative with a goal of promoting sustainable living throughout the community.

The pilot project for this initiative was refurbishing the Carver Elementary School greenhouse used by first graders to learn about sustainable living, including how plants grow and how to care for them.

The refurbished greenhouse is equipped with gloves, shovels, pots, watering cans and other supplies for students to use. “Team Right Now!’ and VCU’s Engineers Without Borders, which helped with the project,  co-hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony in February.
