Waging War against Waste

For the third consecutive year, Virginia Commonwealth University encouraged the university community to take a stand against waste while exchanging ideas about creating a more sustainable environment.
As part of its third annual Campus Sustainability Day on Friday, Oct. 12, VCU hosted a variety of different vendors that incorporate sustainability in their organizations.
"The hope in putting all of this together for Campus Sustainability Day is to be able to reach those students that may not know much about sustainability and let the VCU community know what we are doing to make the campus more sustainable," said Parker Long, a campus sustainability technician.
Already at the forefront of sustainability, the university hosts the event each year to help empower its community in making better decisions about day-to-day living.
This year, organizations hosted tables representing various ecological resources such as energy and water. Participants received a "passport" that they could have stamped at each station before entering it into a raffle to win a new bike.
