Walking for mental health

On Oct. 19, nearly 40 people representing Virginia Commonwealth University Women's Health participated in the 2013 National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Virginia’s annual NAMIWalks event.

Physicians, patients, nurses, care partners, hospital staff and friends walked in the Innsbrook event to support NAMI, which focuses on erasing mental health stigmas and promotes wellness through advocacy, peer-to-peer support, fundraising and raising public awareness.

The NAMI VCU Women's Health team partnered with NAMI and the Department of Psychiatry in the VCU School of Medicine. The team raised more than $2,000, a portion of which will support programming and research for the Department of Psychiatry.
